Smitti started with a love of creativity — and the idea that color, pattern and unexpected combinations can make something familiar feel entirely new.
Each bag begins with the textile. From classic cotton bandanas to vintage, deadstock and woven fabrics, materials are chosen for their color, texture and character. They might be paired in an unexpected combination, embellished by hand, or brought together with a contrasting textile. The result is something distinctly its own.
Every Smitti bag is handcrafted in Boston. Soft textiles are carefully cut, backed and structured by hand, transforming them into a compact, sculptural silhouette designed to hold its shape while still feeling distinctly textile.
And because every piece is individually cut, pattern placement and details naturally vary from bag to bag. Vintage and deadstock textiles may only yield a handful of pieces — sometimes just one. This makes each bag one of a kind.

Why Bandanas?
The first Smitti bags began with the bandana — an everyday piece of cotton that has been worn, collected and reimagined for generations.
I loved the idea of taking something so recognizable and changing the way you see it. Each bandana is deconstructed, paired by color and pattern, reinforced with substantial cotton structure, and rebuilt into the signature Smitti silhouette.
My Story
Hi! I'm Jessi, the founder, designer and creator behind Smitti.
Before starting Smitti, I spent years working across food distribution, events, retail and sales — always somewhere between products and the people who love them. I loved the creative side of that world: discovering something special, thinking about how it should be presented, and finding the people who would get excited about it too.
Then my health changed, and life got a lot quieter.
I had to step away from the career and pace I was used to and spend a few years focused on getting better. Toward the end of that slower chapter, I realized I needed to rediscover what filled my cup. I knew I wanted to create again, work with my hands, and make something that could bring a little joy to someone else.
After a lot of trial and error, I taught myself how to sew.
So eventually, I made a bag.
Then I made another. And another.
I became a little obsessed — with finding the perfect shape, different textiles, putting colors together that shouldn't necessarily work but somehow do, and figuring out how to turn soft, familiar fabrics into something structured and entirely different.
Somewhere along the way, that experimenting became Smitti.
Today, every Smitti bag is individually cut and sewn in small batches. I choose the textiles, play with each pairing, cut each piece, construct each bag and finish it by hand. Because of the fabrics I work with and the way they're cut, no two come together exactly the same.
Smitti is a little bit of everything I've loved along the way — product, design, color, storytelling and the joy of creating something that feels special.
And maybe it's also a reminder that sometimes the thing you never planned on making is exactly what you're supposed to make next.
